Featured Endangered Species:

Wild Places

Conservation begins with saving real places - the forests and deserts, rivers and wetlands, mangroves and coral reefs that make up the web of life. But the quickening destruction of habitats and the limited resources available for their protection require establishing clear priorities among places the world must work to save.

To guide this undertaking, WWF scientists developed a roadmap known as the Global 200, a scientific ranking of more than 200 critical terrestrial, freshwater, and marine habitats - areas that we must protect if we are to preserve the web of life.

Within these Global 200 ecoregions WWF conservationists often work in harsh conditions to translate complex ecoregional visions into real, on-the-ground conservation. Whether consulting with fishing communities in Mozambique, moving three-ton rhinos in Nepal, tracking poachers in Gabon or saving North America's most endangered mammal - the black-footed ferret - these unsung heroes are defining the future of conservation.

Discover the places where WWF scientists and conservationists are working to save life on Earth.
